This song truly came from an old saying, a clever one-liner that made its way back through some storytelling to me. I got on the kick of writing about food and stuck to it talking about a happy meal and grease in a frying pan. Originally, I even had a line in it about butter and being on a roll…yeyuh um- thankfully, I had a songwriting class my last semester in the music program at McLennan Community College where I busted it back out and refined it a little bit for a final assignment. It was the first song I finally finished words and music.
I have been writing since I was about 11, but I never played an instrument. I would say that the program at MCC brought A LOT out of me. This song is probably responsible for everything that has gotten me to where I am today. After this I was able to go back and finish tons of songs I had written words to without music. I had melodies in my head, but nothing to play them with. The old saying is true- “It all starts with a song.” I’ve met influential people through it, and even named my business after it- Fryin’ Pan Records. |  |
